‘Summer Sunbeams’ by Marjory McKinven FoQ 2012

In a previous blog I talked about how the Festival of Quilts is also a time to meet up with friends, Marjory McKinven and Marion Robertson who are two very talented sisters.

Well this quilt, ‘Summer Sunbeams’ was made by Marjory.

Unfortunately this picture doesn’t do this lovely quilt justice.

The information below about the quilt is taken from the show catalogue…..

‘Hand dyed cotton fabric, screen printed, machine pieced and free machine and hand stitched.  Inspired by sunshine sparkling through early summer canopy onto a stream through a wood.’

I absolutely love the use of text in quilts…..

The colours are fab and the quilting adds such texture it makes you want to reach out and touch it!

Marjory had a second item in the exhibition in the Quilt Creations category titled ‘Hips and Haws’ which is a mixed media piece using photos from sketchbook pages but unfortunately I don’t have any pictures – next year we shall not try to cram so much into 3 days!

Marjory is a member of a textile group called Freewheeling. Click on the link and you can see more of her fabulous work.

Thanks for stopping by…
