A few months ago I joined a group called Textile Without Limits which is a contemporary quilting and textile group.
The people in the group are lovely and are so very talented (not sure what I am doing there!) and I really enjoy going.
The group meets every month on alternate Saturdays and Sundays and tomorrow Leah Higgins, who runs the group, will be leading the day doing printing with thickend dyes. I have never done this sort of thing before so am really looking forward to it.
Leah is very knowledgeable and provides very detailed instructions with regards to what we need to bring. One of the things is fabric……..
I bought some white cotton pieces from Empress Mills at the Festival of Quilts this year and following instructions from Leah have soaked the pieces in Soda Crystals today (which I happened to have in the cupboard) and the picture below is the fabric drip drying on the washing line today in a rare day of sunshine here in Manchester!
I have no idea if I did it right as I have never used the stuff before so in a ‘belt and braces’ approach I also bought some ‘ready for dyeing’ cotton fabric from Whaleys in Bradford. They have so much choice that it is hard to choose so I tormented the poor sales lady this week asking for some advice!
Soooo, I will use both sets of fabric tomorrow and see what happens. I will post pictures of my ‘creations’ despite how they turn out!! My apologies in advance if they are not very good.
Thanks for stopping by….
