Last but certainly not least….I thought we would finish with one of the prize winners. It is no surprise that it won a prize as it was fabulous!
It was hung just on the left back wall as you entered the hall and was huge. I actually returned to look at this quilt a few times over the 3 days we were there as it just deserved to be admired!
The quilt is named ‘River Time’ by Sandra Newton and was in the Contemporary Quilt category winning 2nd prize.
Technical Information: ‘Polewrap/stitched resist shibori. Screen, stencil, thermofax printed. Free machine quilted. Monoprinted backing. Recycled sheets, green dream wadding.’
Inspiration: ‘Oxfordshire’s river walks inspired this quilt for the City & Guilds Diploma at Missenden Abbey. Coleman Banks’ translation of Rumi.’
If you would like to know more about this quilt then visit the website of Barbara Weeks who has a student showcase page all about Sandra and the creation of this quilt. If you scroll to the bottom of that page, the last photo is of the quilt on a bed which looks stunning.
I hope you have enjoyed Festival Friday and are eagerly anticipating the start of Festival of Quilts 2013 as much as we are.
Janet (M-in-L) and I will be driving down on the Thursday night and staying for 2 days. Last year we stayed for 3 days and packed them full of wonderful workshops but this year we haven’t booked any and are looking forward to concentrating on the looking and the buying!! Maybe we will see you there – please say hello if you do.
Only 7 more sleeps to go!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for stopping by….
