The Raffle: Lou’s Shoes

Image

I am very excited to tell you about the next raffle prize!!!

They have been made with great skill by Lou (The Fabulous Stitcher)….. and here they are……well hiding in their little handmade bag….

Lous Shoes 1

Are they gorgeous or what????!!!!!! Lous Shoes 2

They are handmade and decorated with the tiniest of beads and yes you guessed it, they are all stitched on by hand! Made in pink, Marilyn’s favourite colour.

Lous Shoes 3

They look huge in the picture but they are only about 3 inch (8cm) long and 1 inch (2.5cm) high.

Lous Shoes 4

Well if they don’t inspire you to come and join us on the 27th October at the exhibition, I don’t know what will.  Just to tempt you even more, Lou (The Fabulous Stitcher) has agreed with some persuasion to exhibit more impressive examples of her work.  There may even be more shoes in different colours – you never know!!!

Thank you to Lou (The Fabulous Stitcher) whose kind support is very much appreciated.

The Raffle: Marions Beautiful Bag

Although The Collaboration Quilt will be drawn as the first prize it is impossible to rank the other prizes as they are all equally fabulous!

So I have decided to post about them in the order that they were very generously given as prizes.

The next is this Beautiful Handmade Bag by our incredibly talented friend Marion Robertson.

The Story….

As I have mentioned in a previous post, Janet (M-in-L) and I go to the festival of quilts every year and part of that annual pilgrimage is having dinner with Marjory McKinven and her sister Marion Robertson.

When the four of us met up last year I was telling them about my plans to organise a quilt and textile exhibition and to have a raffle to raise money for charity.  Marion immediately offered to make a patchwork bag to be used as one of the prizes which was most gratefully accepted.

A few weeks later a parcel arrived with her gorgeous bag inside…..

Marions Bag 4 Marions Bag 5

Thank you to Marion whose kind support is very much appreciated.

Raffle Tickets: We’re Off!!!

Janet (M-in-L) has made a great start with selling raffle tickets!

Thanks goes to Alf Clemo at the Older Peoples Forum in Warrington for arranging to let her take the quilt to their monthly meeting and offering the members attending the opportunity to buy tickets.

The members have done us proud and bought a whopping £57 worth of tickets!

A HUGE THANK YOU to all the people who bought tickets.

Janet (M-in-L) also tells me that there was a lot of interest in the quilt which was displayed for the members to see on a quilt stand.  Lots of lovely comments were made which is reassuring to hear and very much appreciated.

I hope we see lots of the members at the exhibition in October and I can thank them in person.

Well, onwards and upwards from here hopefully with ticket sales!

The Raffle – First Prize ‘The Collaboration Quilt’

Image

The first prize is very special as it is a collaboration between a number of us and here is the finished quilt…

Raffle Quilt 1

The Story…..

The quilt top was pieced by Our Friend Marilyn a while ago but never finished.  It was passed to Janet (Mum-in-Law) via Ruth Parker who had the sad task of sorting through Marilyns stash.

Janet (Mum-in-Law) and I wanted to finish the quilt and both agreed that it should be a prize in the raffle so the finishing off began.

Janet (Mum-in-Law) added the final border, sandwiched the layers and made the binding.

I did the quilting which is shown in progress in the picture below.  It looks quite brutal but it worked a treat to cope with the weight.

Raffle Quilt 4

It was then passed to Lou (The Fabulous Stitcher) to square up, add the binding and a hanging sleeve.

The block is called Monkey Wrench and is so effective when used with contrasting fabrics.

Raffle Quilt 3 Raffle Quilt 2

The finished quilt measures 46 inches by 60 inches (117cm x 152cm) so it is a fair size.

I hope you agree that it looks fab and will be a lovely prize for whoever is lucky enough to win it – so good luck to all those you who buy tickets and thank you for doing so.
